How to get excused from jury duty in Orange County, California

The excusal routes Orange County, California actually recognizes — what each one needs, who decides, and where it goes.

Confirmed by the Orange County jury clerk on 28 September 2026. For financial hardship the normal process is simple: you enter your monthly income and expenses in eJuror, and that is all the court initially goes by — the clerk’s office says nothing further needs to be mailed in. If the request is denied, you can bring additional information and discuss it with the judge in person. A medical excusal needs a note from your physician, which you can upload to eJuror (the portal has an upload feature) or mail. Prior jury service in the last 12 months, and age 70 or older, are free grounds you claim in eJuror. Orange does not treat silence as approval: if you hear nothing within 10 days, log back in to eJuror to check your status before telephoning.

You served within the past 12 monthsNamed ground — free to claim

Orange lists prior service as one of its five excuse grounds, and summonses one juror at most once in any 12-month period. Nothing to buy.

Superior Court of California, County of Orange — eJuror excuse grounds and Jury FAQ. One of the five grounds Orange publishes is “Completed Call-In or Reporting Jury Service within the past 12 months (this includes service as a Grand Juror).” The county’s own FAQ says the same thing from the other side: “Jurors may be summoned for jury service once every 12-month period.” Call-in counts. You do not have to have been seated on a jury, or even to have entered the building — completing a telephone call-in period is service for this purpose. If this applies to you it is the shortest route out of the summons, it needs no argument and no document, and there is nothing we could add to it.

Orange County jury clerk (28 Sep 2026) and the published eJuror grounds. The jury clerk confirmed the process by telephone on 28 September 2026: for financial hardship the juror enters their monthly income and expenses on eJuror, and that is all the court initially goes by — nothing further needs to be mailed in. If the request is denied, the juror may bring additional information and discuss it with the judge in person. Two published figures frame those numbers: jurors are paid $15.00 a day starting with the second day plus mileage, and the Juror Affidavit Questionnaire asks how many days your employer pays, on a scale that starts at 0 — so the gap non-payment leaves is the case.
