1. What these terms cover
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the JuryFree website and services operated by juryfree, LLC, a California limited liability company (“JuryFree,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By accessing the website, purchasing a product or service, or otherwise using JuryFree, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the website or purchase any product.
These Terms include and incorporate our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, each of which forms part of your agreement with JuryFree.
2. What JuryFree is
JuryFree provides researched information and document-formatting tools intended to help individuals understand and present their own circumstances in connection with jury service.
JuryFree is not a law firm. JuryFree is not owned or operated by attorneys, and no attorney-client relationship is created between you and JuryFree by your use of the website, purchase of a product, submission of information, or communication with us.
JuryFree does not provide legal advice, legal representation, or legal services through the website.
You are responsible for determining whether you need advice or representation from a licensed attorney or other qualified professional.
3. Our products
3.1 Customer-Written Documents
For certain products, you provide your own description of your circumstances through a text field.
Your words are placed into a document template containing information applicable to the relevant court or county, such as the court name, mailing address, salutation, structure, and applicable rule or requirement.
We do not draft your account of your circumstances, rewrite it into legal language, select the facts you should present, or determine what you should say to the court.
Your submission is reproduced as provided, subject only to formatting necessary to place it into the applicable document.
3.2 Company-Authored Information
Certain products contain information written by JuryFree based on our research into a particular court or county.
Examples include materials describing what a physician or employer may need to provide, an in-person guide, or a telephone call script.
These materials are informational tools. They do not constitute legal advice and do not guarantee that a court, physician, employer, clerk, judge, or other person will accept or act upon them.
Where a document must be completed or certified by a physician, employer, or other third party, that third party—not JuryFree—is responsible for the substance of the information they provide.
3.3 County Confirmation
For certain counties, JuryFree offers paid access to a more detailed description of the county’s researched jury-service requirements, routes, deadlines, and contacts.
County Confirmation is informational access to the applicable county research. It does not constitute legal advice, representation, or a determination that you qualify for any particular form of relief.
The fee for County Confirmation is currently $4.97. The $4.97 payment is credited in full against a later qualifying document purchased for the same county, subject to the terms displayed at the time of purchase.
4. No guarantee of result
JuryFree does not guarantee that a court will excuse, postpone, defer, disqualify, or otherwise grant any request relating to jury service.
The decision belongs exclusively to the applicable court or other authorized governmental official.
Our products are designed to help you understand the applicable requirements and present your own circumstances. They cannot compel a particular result.
You should not purchase a JuryFree product on the assumption that your request will be granted.
5. Research, accuracy, and changes to court requirements
JuryFree researches county and court requirements using available sources, including court forms, court publications, rules, websites, and other sources identified during our research.
Some routes in our catalogue have been confirmed against a primary source. Other routes have not been independently confirmed with the applicable county or court.
Where applicable, the website identifies whether a route has been confirmed and identifies the source and date of confirmation when that information is available.
Court procedures, forms, deadlines, addresses, contact information, and requirements can change, sometimes without notice. Information that was accurate when researched may subsequently become incomplete, outdated, or inapplicable.
You are responsible for reviewing the information provided to you and, when appropriate, confirming current requirements directly with the applicable court before relying upon it.
JuryFree does not represent that information on the website or in a product will remain current after the date on which it was researched or delivered.
5.1 Research Status and Currentness
JuryFree’s county research is not uniformly confirmed with the applicable court.
Where a county route has been confirmed against a primary source, JuryFree identifies the source and, where available, the date of confirmation.
For routes that have not been independently confirmed with the applicable county or court, JuryFree identifies that status on the applicable county page.
This distinction is important: a route that has not been confirmed should not be treated as a representation by JuryFree that the applicable court has approved or verified the information.
Court rules, procedures, forms, deadlines, addresses, telephone numbers, and administrative practices may change without notice.
You should confirm time-sensitive requirements directly with the applicable court when appropriate, particularly where the deadline is close or the consequences of missing the deadline are significant.
JuryFree’s identification of a route or procedure does not constitute a representation that the court will accept your request or that the information remains current after the date on which it was researched.
6. Deadlines and filing responsibility
Jury-service requests may be subject to deadlines established by the applicable court.
Missing a deadline may affect your ability to obtain the relief you seek.
JuryFree may identify a deadline in the information or document provided to you, but you are solely responsible for meeting any applicable deadline.
You are also solely responsible for submitting or filing your document with the appropriate court, office, person, or other recipient and for determining the appropriate method of submission.
JuryFree does not file documents with courts on your behalf unless a particular service expressly states otherwise.
7. Your responsibility for your information
You are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and truthfulness of information you provide to JuryFree.
You must not provide information that you know to be false or misleading.
If a document requires a sworn statement, affidavit, certification, or signature under penalty of perjury, you are solely responsible for ensuring that everything you sign or submit is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
JuryFree does not verify the factual assertions contained in your submission and does not assume responsibility for statements you provide.
You should not sign a document stating something that is not true about you.
If the applicable court’s form or certification does not accurately describe your circumstances, you should contact the court or obtain advice from a licensed attorney rather than making a false statement.
8. Third-party documents and certifications
Certain JuryFree products are intended to be completed, signed, or supplied by another person.
For example, an employer verification document may be provided for your employer to complete, and a medical-information document may be intended for your physician.
You must not complete or sign a portion of a document that is expressly intended for another person unless the applicable recipient or authority instructs you to do so.
JuryFree is not responsible for whether a physician, employer, court, clerk, judge, or other third party completes, signs, accepts, rejects, or acts upon a document.
9. Products sold as is
Except where prohibited by applicable law, products and information are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, JuryFree disclaims warranties, express or implied, concerning the website, research, information, documents, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or suitability for your individual circumstances.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer protection right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
10. Fees and payment
All prices are one-time charges for the applicable transaction.
JuryFree does not currently offer subscriptions, memberships, recurring charges, or ongoing paid access.
Payments are processed through our third-party payment processor. JuryFree does not receive or store your full payment-card number.
The price applicable to a transaction is the price displayed at the time you purchase.
10.1 County Confirmation Credit
Where offered, a $4.97 County Confirmation purchase may be credited in full toward a qualifying document purchased later for the same county.
The credit is not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash unless otherwise required by applicable law.
The treatment of the $4.97 charge for tax and other legal purposes may be subject to applicable law and regulatory guidance.
11. Refunds and cancellations
JuryFree wants you to understand what you are purchasing before you pay. Product descriptions and prices are displayed before checkout.
11.1 County Confirmation
County Confirmation provides immediate access to information that is displayed to you after purchase.
Because the information becomes available for your use immediately upon purchase, County Confirmation purchases are generally non-refundable once access has been provided, except where required by applicable law or where JuryFree has charged you in error.
The $4.97 County Confirmation payment is credited in full toward a qualifying document subsequently purchased for the same county, as described at checkout.
11.2 Documents Prepared for You
Certain JuryFree documents are prepared individually after you provide information to us.
If you purchase a document that requires us to prepare a document using information you provide, you may request a refund before we begin preparing the document.
Once preparation has begun, the purchase is generally non-refundable because the document is prepared specifically for you, except where required by applicable law or where JuryFree is unable to provide the purchased product.
If JuryFree is unable to provide the purchased product, we will refund the amount paid for that product.
11.3 Formatting Products
For a product in which JuryFree places your own words into a document template, you are responsible for reviewing the information you provide before submitting it.
A formatting or typographical correction made necessary by JuryFree’s error will be corrected at no additional charge.
A change in your circumstances, a change in your mind about the wording you supplied, or dissatisfaction with the legal or practical outcome of a request does not by itself entitle you to a refund.
11.4 Requests for Refunds
To request a refund, contact JuryFree at [email protected] and identify the transaction and the product purchased.
We will review the request and respond within a reasonable period.
Nothing in this policy limits any refund, cancellation, chargeback, or other consumer right that cannot lawfully be waived.
12. Intellectual property
The JuryFree website, research database, written materials, templates, organization, compilation, design, software, branding, and other content are owned by or licensed to JuryFree and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Your purchase gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive right to use the purchased document or information for your own jury-service matter.
You do not acquire ownership of JuryFree’s research database or a license to reproduce, redistribute, resell, publish, scrape, systematically extract, or commercially exploit the underlying research.
You may not use automated systems, scraping tools, bots, or other methods to systematically copy or extract county information from the website.
You may not resell or redistribute JuryFree products or use them to create a competing database or service.
13. Prohibited uses
Provide knowingly false information.
Use JuryFree to create or submit fraudulent documents.
Impersonate another person.
Interfere with the operation or security of the website.
Scrape or systematically extract the research database.
Reproduce or redistribute paid content for others.
Resell JuryFree products without written authorization.
Attempt to obtain paid content without payment.
Use the website in a manner that violates applicable law.
14. Third-party services
JuryFree relies upon third-party service providers to operate portions of the website and fulfill transactions, including payment processing, website hosting, email delivery, security, information technology, and related services.
Your use of third-party services may also be subject to those providers’ terms and privacy policies.
15. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
You acknowledge that information you provide to JuryFree may include sensitive personal information, including information concerning health, caregiving circumstances, household finances, or other personal circumstances.
Please do not provide information that is not reasonably necessary for the product or service you are purchasing.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, JuryFree and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the website or products.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, JuryFree’s total liability arising from a particular transaction will not exceed the amount you paid JuryFree for that transaction.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
17. Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless JuryFree and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers from claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising from:
your violation of these Terms;
your violation of applicable law;
information or statements you knowingly provide that are false or misleading; or
your misuse of the website or products.
18. Governing law and dispute resolution
18.1 Informal Resolution
Before initiating a formal proceeding concerning a dispute with JuryFree, you agree to first contact JuryFree and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute informally.
You may initiate this process by contacting us [email protected] and describing the nature of the dispute and the relief you are requesting.
Nothing in this section prevents you from exercising a right that cannot lawfully be conditioned upon prior informal resolution.
18.2 Small Claims
To the extent permitted by applicable law, either you or JuryFree may bring an eligible individual claim in a small claims court having jurisdiction over the claim.
18.3 Other Proceedings
For any dispute that is not eligible for small claims court and is not otherwise subject to a mandatory dispute-resolution procedure under applicable law, the parties may bring the dispute in a court of competent jurisdiction.
18.4 Governing Law
Except to the extent otherwise required by applicable law, these Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to your use of JuryFree or purchase of a JuryFree product will be governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
Nothing in this section is intended to deprive a consumer of protections or rights that cannot lawfully be waived under the law applicable to that consumer.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
The revised Terms will be posted on the website with an updated effective date. Changes will apply prospectively unless otherwise required by law.
Your continued use of the website after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law.
20. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid, or unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
21. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Disclaimer, and any terms expressly presented to you at checkout, constitute the agreement between you and JuryFree concerning your use of the website and purchase of JuryFree products, except to the extent a separate written agreement applies.
